Fort Bend Texans Fall 2007 College Combine and Showcases (18U)(rev. 10/20/2007 3:30pm)

The Fort Bend Texans Baseball Club will once again be sponsoring our Fall College Combine and Showcase Series for select High School Juniors and Seniors. These combines have been very successful in producing college playing opportunities at a wide variety of schools, and pushing players to assess their skills and capabilities. Coaches from a variety of schools typically participate in a given area combine (Div. I, II, III and JC).

The Fall 2007 Schedule for these combines is as follows:

Oct. 27-28 (Sat/Sun) - University of Mary-Hardin Baylor Showcase

Nov. 3 (Sat) - Senior Day at BBUSA (NOTE: The cost of this event is not included in the combine series, but it is recommended that players participate).

Nov. 4 (Sun) - Houston Baptist University (Surrounding schools indicating interest include Blinn, Angelina, Galveston Jr. College, Wharton Jr. College, San Jacinto Jr. College, and Sam Houston State)

November 10 (Sat) - Austin Area (Concordia University). Other Austin and San Marcos area schools have been invited.

November 17 (Sat)- San Antonio (Trinity University). 4 to 5 San Antonio area college coaches scheduled to attend.

December 1 (Sat) - Eastfield College (Dallas). 4 to 5 other Dallas and East Texas schools have been invited.

In addition, player information and coaches evaluations from the Mary-Hardin Baylor Showcase will be sent to approximately 100 Texas Schools.

Please note that players must be recommended by the Fort Bend Texans Coaching Staff to participate. Contact Coach Carter at 832-444-2307 for more information. The cost of the full combine series is $425. Players interested in participating should meet at John Hudek's Baseball Academy on Sunday Oct. 21 at 6:30PM for a brief workout and information session. Registration forms and program fees will be collected at this time.

Randal Grichuk Named to USA Baseball Youth National Team (rev. 8/12/2007 8:03pm)

For the second year in a row, a Fort Bend Texans player has been named to USA Baseballs Youth National Team.  Randal Grichuk (OF Lamar High School), who led the Texans and a national field of players in this summers USA Junior Olympic Tournament (Jupiter, FL) in several offensive categories (BA, HR, RBI), has been named to the roster.  Grichuk was one of only 36 players from across the nation invited to an intense 10 tryout camp at the USA Baseball facility in Cary, NC.

Randal's selection follows that of Kyle Winkler (P, Kempner High School) whose was named to last years team.  Randal will be participating with his USA Baseball teammates in the IBAF World Tournament to be held Venezuela August 17 to 26.

Congratulations to Randal and his family, who have worked hard and stayed focused to achieve this important accomplishment.

16U and 18U will be off for the next few weekends (rev. 8/4/2007 10:20am)

Many players are taking vacations and preparing for school. Please monitor the web site for additional information about the fall.  Please forward any fall schedule information you receive about your school team, so we can take this into account in our planning.  Thanks for your efforts this Summer!

All 18U Players Should Get Wood Bats for This Weekend's LA Tournament (rev. 6/25/2007 4:20pm)

All 18U players should carry wood bats to this weekends BEST Tournament in Baton Rouge, LA.  Some players have bats from last years wood bat tournaments, John Hudek's Baseball Academy also has a new stock of wood bats, as do other local baseball shops.

16U-Blue Ready to Roll in USA Baseball Tournament (rev. 6/20/2007 7:40pm)

Our 16U-Blue team is off to Jupiter, Florida on Thursday for the USA Baseball Junior Olympic Tournament.  The Team will be playing teams from throughout the US in this nationally recognized tournament, which is also used to scout and begin the selection process for USA National Teams.

Good luck gentlemen, represent yourselves, your families, and your ball club well!

The Scouts are Looking for Players (rev. 6/20/2007 7:40am)

USA Baseball and their collegiate and national team scouts recently conferred with us about players.  Here are the questions they are asking when evaluating players:

GENERAL

Did this player play Varsity?

Is he a leader on the field and in the dugout?

Is he a “gamer” with a will to win?

Does he exhibit excellent composure in pressure situations?

Can he compete with 5,000 people rooting against him?

How is his general athleticism?

Is he polite and respectful? Is he coachable?

OFFENSIVELY

Where does he hit in your lineup?

Is he a contact hitter, gap hitter, or a power hitter?

Is he a good baserunner?

Statistics?

DEFENSIVELY

What is his best position?

What other positions can he play at a competitive level?

Arm Strength? Range?

Pop Time?

Footwork?

PITCHING

FB Velocity Range? (Please be honest and accurate. Nothing is more frustrating than looking for the 91mph FB on the nomination only to find the 82 mph FB on the mound)

How is his control?

How many pitches does he command?

Is he a “pitcher?”

Can he hold runners on?

Does he compete?

Does he have any experience out of the bullpen?

Statistics?

Attention 18U - Why Call Practice for 8AM? (rev. 6/12/2007 2:40pm)

So why would Coach Mouton call batting practice for 8AM when their are 23 other hours in a perfectly good summer day?  Mom doesn't usually wake me up until 11 or bring my breakfast up until noon.  After all, how am I supposed to stay up all night focusing on important things like X-Box and Conan O'Brien when I have to get up early.  Maybe I can pop out of bed and make it at the last minute.  Maybe I can get by with the minimum.

All I can tell you is it isn't just about baseball.  It is about what you want.  If you want it, there it is.  Take it with enthusiasm and make it happen for you.  If you don't want it, I'm sure someone else will see it and take it so it won't go cheap.  Baseball, college, job, career.  Some of it is about having the inherent talent.  A lot of it is about what you want and how dedicated you are to getting it.

Congratulations!

Texans 13U-Blue Champions of the Katy-Brookshire Tournament

Texans 13U-Red  Winners of the Consolation bracket of the Cy-Fair Tournament

Texans 12U-Blue, 11U-Blue Champions of the South Texas Summer Slam in San Antonio in their respective brackets

Congratulations on the progress you are making both individually and as a team.  Continue your hard work.  The most important attitude to develop is that Success is the start of the next step, not a destination.

All 16U and 18U Fee Payments Due - Thank Mom and Dad (rev. 6/6/2007 10:00am)

Payment of all 16U and 18U player fees is due before this weekend games.  Players, your parents or someone special has made an investment in you, thank them directly by saying "thanks for this opportunity", and indirectly by playing hard, leveraging your coaches, and developing your game.  You are worth the investment (but you don't come cheap).

If you have any questions concerning your remaining balance, please contact us at GM@FortBendTexans.com.
