--- News Archive --- 16U-White, 18U-Blue, 18U-Red Playing This Weekend The 16U-White, 18U-Blue, and 18U-Red Teams will be playing this weekend in the Cyclones Classic at Elkins High School. The schedule for this tournament is expected to be released on Wednesday. All players on these teams should contact Coach Wood at (832)-886-1697 to report their availability for this weekend's tournament.
Is the rain getting in your way? The rain stops us from playing outside, but it also provides a great opportunity to get to the cages and work out some kinks. If you haven't had a lesson with your hitting coach or your specialty coach to talk about your goals for the summer and your plan, why not this week? Some players will sit around this week and wonder why they aren't getting better, some won't let a little water stand in their way. Players Report Your Availability ASAP (rev. 5/13/2007 11:55pm) All players should report their availability for tournaments and team activities as soon as possible. This year we will be using a new web based survey system for reporting player availability. Enter your information as best you know it at this time, and update it as your plans change. The Texans policies on player availability detail how this information is used. Please report your availability by taking the Player Availability Survey. Summer Baseball Getting Ready to Roll! (rev. 4/22/2007 3:05pm) Summer Playing Schedules for the 18U and 16U Teams are now available. The 18U Teams will participate in a competitive series of College Showcase Tournaments. The 18U-Blue team will focus on regional tournaments with travel to Baton Rouge, Dallas, San Antonio, and regional Texas colleges. The 18U-White team will focus on Houston area college showcase tournaments including tournaments at Houston Baptist, Stephen F. Austin, Lamar University, and Sam Houston State. Schedules for both teams include College Workout days. The 16U-Blue Team will be participating in USA Baseball's Junior Olympic Tournament in Jupiter, FL, while the schedule for the 16U-White team maximizes local playing opportunities in competitive Houston Area Select Tournaments.
New and returning players should complete and return an updated Player Registration Form. New players should schedule a tryout by calling Coach Carter at 832-444-2307. All Remaining Games for This Weekend (5/26) are Cancelled; Optional Practice Sunday (rev. 5/25/2007 1:00pm) Due to heavy rain in the Houston Area, all remaining games for this weekend are cancelled. The fields are currently saturated and unplayable, and the weather is not predicted to improve enough to make play Sunday or Monday possible.
Our objective this weekend was to put the "baseball machine" in motion, as several players have not played for a few weeks following their spring school season.
We will have an optional indoor practice Sunday at John Hudek's Baseball Academy. The facility is closed to the public and for insurance reasons only Texan players and Coaches are able to participate. The schedule for this practice is as follows:
2:30PM to 4:30PM 16U Players 4:30PM to 6:30PM 18U Players
We will be hitting (BP in the cages), pitchers will throw their bull pens, and we will be reviewing some technique issues with our skills coaches (Infielders, Outfielders, and Catchers). Attend whatever portion of the workout you are able, their is no need to contact the Coaches if you are not able to attend.
You should have been notified by phone or by text message of schedule changes early Saturday afternoon. If you did not receive a message at the proper phone number, please send us an e-mail at GM@FortBendTexans.com listing the cell phone numbers to which we can send a text message. 16U Tryout and 18U Meeting on Sunday Evening 4/28 (rev. 4/28/2007 6:05pm) A tryout for players interested in playing 16U with the Fort Bend Texans should attend a workout on Sunday evening April 29 at John Hudek's Baseball Academy at 5:45pm. Players will hit, throw, field, and run the 60. Wear your practice gear and bring shoes for both outside and in the cage.
Players interested in the 18U Teams should plan on attending a meeting on Sunday evening April 29 at John Hudek's Baseball Academy at 8:00pm.
No College Combine This Weekend (Dec. 8) (rev. 12/7/2006 12:35pm) Due to the availability of players and college coaches, the college combine scheduled for this coming weekend in San Antonio has been cancelled. Congratulations to the combine players on a great fall season. 18U-Blue (Combine) Team players interested in playing this weekend should contact Coach Carter or Coach Canney for assignment to a team.
The Combines were very successful this fall, generating over 20 college playing offers and inquires on each of the graduating seniors who participated. Many of the college coaches have indicated to us that they will be continuing to scout and recruit players during the spring season and are interested in seeing several players in game action this spring. Players (graduating seniors) who are interested in playing college baseball and have not yet committed to a school should maintain contact with Coach Carter regarding their status.
Once again, congratulations on a great fall and the college playing opportunities you generated for yourself thru your hard work and diligence! Weekend Schedule (Dec. 8-9) Set (rev. 12/5/2006 6:00pm) The weather will be cool and sunny, and it will also be a great way to cap off the fall season this weekend.
