July 18, 2014 DURHAM, N.C. – USA Baseball announced the 40 players that were named to the Women’s National Team Trials roster on Friday. Trials for the team will take place in Malibu, Calif., from August 18 until August 21 at Pepperdine University, and the final 20-player roster for the USA Baseball Women’s National Team will be announced after the event.
The 40 athletes made the trials roster through a variety of selection vehicles. The primary tools used to select players for the roster were the three regional tryouts held by USA Baseball in various cities throughout the country. Players were also named to the roster through the Women’s National Team Development Program held in January and the women’s division of the 2013 National Team Identification Series.
The 40 names on the Women’s National Team Trials roster represent 15 different states across the country. California led the way with 12 athletes hailing from the state, followed closely by Florida with six and Texas with five.
After the completion of trials, 20 players will be selected to the final roster for the 2014 Women’s National Team. The team will then start training, which will run from August 22nd through the 28th in Malibu, Calif., before traveling to Miyazaki, Japan, to represent the U.S. in the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup to be held September 1st through September 7th.
