Mississippi Outreach Program

Coach Dennis Carter and Coach Brian Williams were the co-founders of the Fort Bend Texans.  Coach Carter grew up in the inner city of Jackson, Mississippi and had a heart for helping other young players from his hometown to break the cycle of poverty.  The Fort Bend Texans Mississippi Outreach Program was established to provide an opportunity for young players to continue their educations by earning athletic scholarships. Working with local baseball coaches, we identify players to attend college showcase events in Texas, Georgia and Florida. The Fort Bend Texans provide travel expenses, lodging and food, and also cover the player’s share of player team fees. We are very happy to report that many of these players have received college scholarships, and all are the first members of their families to attend college!  Even more important, these young men experience grace and love from strangers of a different race.  Our Mississippi coaches report that these young men return to school with a new attitude about the world, and they share their experiences with friends.  These boys are amazed that complete strangers would care enough to reach out to them and provide an opportunity to experience a world completely different from their daily reality. They continue to look for ‘the catch’ but only find grace! One person at a time, we are helping to change the lives of these young men.  We are so grateful to all who have participated to help fund this ministry of the Fort Bend Texans and are always grateful to accept additional help.  Our goal is to raise $16,000/year for this outreach.
