Coach Carter’s mother was a huge anchor of faith and strength in his life, and the Fort Bend Texans were honored to establish a scholarship fund in her memory.  In addition to the needs of our Mississippi Outreach Ministry, there are many players in our local community who are experiencing financial need.  We strongly believe that the life skills players develop on the baseball field are as important as the sport itself, and it is our goal to never turn away a player because of financial need.  The Velma Carter Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to raise funds for players who demonstrate a desire to work hard, respect themselves and their peers, maintain their grades, and provide service back to the organization.  After Coach Carter’s passing in 2016, the Fort Bend Texans changed the fund name to add Dennis alongside his mother Velma. The needs of the scholarship fund are always greater than the resources available, and we are grateful for the support of our sustaining and one-time donors.
